Boardroom VR is a virtual reality test simulation developed by two ASU students. The game was built to put players directly into a negotiation situation where a father and a daughter were trying to buy a car from a salesman and a manager. I was brought on to the project as a narrative designer but also was responsible for QA, creating focused feedback forms and administering the simulation to testers.
The project was developed to test building a simulation in VR. The situation of buying a car was decided upon by the team as it was something universally relatable to most people. I was responsible for writing the script that we then filmed using a 360 camera in person. This footage was then edited and prepared for VR.
The simulation was designed to put students in the shoes of someone actually at the table of a difficult negotiation. It could be overwhelming, distracting, and difficult. However, if players paid close attention to the plot and what the characters were saying, they could identify what each person's goals were by the end of the simulation.
Although the full version ultimately wasn't developed, a future version was intended to be developed where the player was an active part of the negotiation rather than a spectator. The negotiation would have branching paths depending on the decisions that players made.
I also was responsible for administering tests to some of the testers we had for the project. I assisted them in setting up their VR devices, collected focused feedback, and reset the simulation at its conclusion. I also wrote several forms for testers to fill out at the end of the simulation to help the development and design teams develop future VR negotiation simulations.
