A small team was developing a warehouse simulation in Forio Epicenter. At the time, I had held the position of Operations Manager at a small wine distributor called Vino 750. The team was struggling to define a gameplay loop for what they had built and brought me on as a Gameplay Designer to redesign and expand their game.
I created a new gameplay loop that involved multiple teams of players sorted into Employees and Managers. The employees were responsible for receiving, sorting, and then preparing inventory for shipment. Managers were responsible for deciding which orders the warehouse should accept based on the current stock of the warehouse, according to the employees.
The catch was that all of the warehouse locations and the current inventory stock status wasn't known to the employees. Additionally, it would be up to the Managers to communicate what items the employees needed to prepare for shipment
This back and forth accurately depicts the struggles of every day communication in a warehouse while teaching players how to deal with Stock Keeping Units (SKUs).
I prepared a design document for the team detailing how this game would function as well as a point system for scoring the players. You can view this design document below
